Enrichment Programs

Infant - Elementary

Bilingual- Spanish & English
Children of the BESA School will follow the 50/50 model, whereby 50 percent of instruction is in Spanish, and 50 percent of instruction is given in English. Students will learn and practice their academic subjects in both Spanish and English through a variety of hands-on, interactive activities. Our teachers provide creative and fun lessons and activities to teach children multicultural competencies, which will prepare them for life in a global community. Teachers will use the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework as well as other high-quality resources to guide their content development and lesson planning. Parents do not need to speak Spanish for their children to succeed in this bilingual  program.
Environmental Science
The BESA School uses a project-based, inquiry model to motivate and stimulate students to learn about environmental science. Allowing children to engage in inquiry-based science lessons provides them with the opportunity to explore on their own and seek their own answers. This approach enables the teacher to act as a facilitator to learning instead of the expert who simply imparts knowledge that the children must memorize. When children ask questions, seek answers, and develop their own conclusions, they are doing what real scientists do.Using this method, we will cover  important lessons such as the human impact on the environment, water cycle, food chains, etc. We will be using the award-winning environmental science curriculum Growing Up WILD.

Social Emotional Development
BESA provides a variety of experiences in English and Spanish to support children’s social-emotional skills and development. Our teachers create developmentally appropriate experiences that engage children in meaningful interactions to promote learning and growth. Children will participate in daily activities that will help them learn new skills and practice existing skills in fun supportive environments. Some topics of focus are sharing, asking permission, using words to communicate needs, expressing gratitude and appreciation for things and people, mindfulness and identification of emotions and how to express them in a positive manner, etc. Teachers at the BESA school use various methodologies to help students understand these concepts such as collaborative circle, role play, props, imaginative play, art, literary connections, etc.

The Arts
At BESA we understand the importance of arts education, whether it be music, dance, painting, or storytelling. Art in its various forms allows students to express their feelings, describe their unique experiences, develop compassion and empathy for others, and make sense of an increasingly complex world. Art education also teaches students how to interpret, criticize, and use visual information to make choices and solve problems. Therefore, at the BESA school, we will participate in coloring, painting, and clay activities to satisfy the visual arts and fine motor skills components of this curriculum. As part of our P.E. curriculum, students will learn and practice various types of dance, such as jazz, tap, and ballet. In addition, they will sing, act, and prepare two shows for parents a year.
