Physical development
This special little group of infants and toddlers are learning how to move, navigate and explore the world around them through gross and fine motor activities. At the BESA School our teachers focus on providing adequate tummy time, space for crawling, cruising and outdoor play to allow them to walk and run. At 18 months, our infants transition into our toddler program where gross motor development is practiced during dance and PE classes. The toddlers begin to utilize age-appropriate games and tools that develop their fine motor skills including modeling clay, textured materials for sensory input and more.
Communication and language skills development
At The BESA School our language program focuses on self-expression in a variety of linguistic and kinesthetic forms. Our bilingual educators begin teaching our infants sign language in both English and Spanish. Books are read daily along with songs and educational videos in both languages. As children develop and transition to the toddler program, their language will expand into letter and sound recognition. Infants and toddlers are immersed in a Spanish environment daily from 8 am to 12 pm with English becoming the dominant language in the afternoon.
Social Emotional Development
BESA provides a variety of experiences in English and Spanish to support children’s social-emotional skills and development. Our teachers create developmentally appropriate experiences that engage children in meaningful interactions to promote learning and growth. Children will participate in daily activities that will help them learn new skills and practice existing skills in fun, supportive environments. Some topics of focus are sharing, asking permission, using words to communicate needs, expressing gratitude, mindfulness and identification of emotions. Teachers at the BESA school use various strategies to help students understand these concepts such as collaborative circles, role- playing, props, imaginative play, art, literary connections and more.
